Seasonal veggies to warm your heart
The Winter vege crop is here!
Part of what makes the restaurant at Millbrook Winery so special is that we truly believe in the 'farm to table' mentality. So much so that the gardens on the property now provide 100% of the vegetables that we use day to day, be it for functions, weddings or the ever changing menu in the restaurant.
Currently there are more than 50 different types vegetable growing in the garden, with a number of heirloom varieties, found only at Millbrook.
On song at the moment are: Broccoli (4 varieties), Cauliflower (2 varieties), Kohlrabi, Fennel, Rainbow Chard, Cabbage (3 varieties), Mustard greens (2 varieties), Turnips (2 varieties), Peas, Sugar Snaps, Beetroot (4 varieties), Carrots (3 varieties), Kale (3 varieties), Radish (3 varieties), Lettuce (7 varieties) and Nasturtium Leaves.
While shopping at the local supermarket may not yield the same amount of choice, it does highlight that veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower, beetroot and leafy greens such as kale are all at their best during the colder months.
