Halliday 2022 Results
It’s that time of year again, the release of the highly awaited and prestigious Halliday Wine Companion results. One of Perth’s favourite and highly sought after wineries, Millbrook, once again performed remarkably well with all wines receiving 90 or higher.
Highly esteemed and independent wine writer, judge and presenter, Erin Larkin was allocated regional taster of Western Australia. Being based in Perth, Erin’s knowledge of Western Australian wine is exceptional with her being a frequent visitor to the state’s premiere wine regions.
A highlight from the Wine Companion is our 2019 Estate Shiraz Viognier which received 95 points. Made in limited quantities and described as ‘a beautiful wine, punching well above its weight’.
The wines scoring 90 points or more were as follows:
Millbrook 2019 Estate Shiraz Viognier – 95/100
Plush, velvety shiraz fruit is ensconced by plump tannins, the whole experience being one of pleasure and comfort. Acid and balance are judged with care and accurate detail. This is a beautiful wine, punching well above its weight.
Millbrook 2019 Limited Release Chardonnay 94/100
The nose is satisfyingly creamy and rich - toasted oak, curry leaf and salted yellow peach. The palate is intensely concentrated with nuts galore and saline acid. Load up a Burgundy glass - this is on the richer side of things, so do not approach if Chablis is more your style.
Millbrook 2020 Regional Viognier – 94/100
Sweet spiced apple, ginger, pepper, mandarin pith, summer apricot and jasmine tea. The palate is fat, slippery and oily, with apricot marmalade and cloudy apple juice in equal measure. The length of flavour is good, however the intensity of florals and ripe orchard fruit mean this will likely be consumed within 5 years of release - and that will be ok. Because it is delicious.
